Really disappointed in Sky Sports. They know better and have all the resources in the world to have either asked a better question to get their own content or reach out to you/give real credit so you’re represented here. I’m still not convinced that by slapping their logo on it and putting you at the end of a caption that you have to tap to expand (which most people will not see) that they are legitimately crediting you. Poor, irresponsible journalism. So upset for you.

You handled this better than so many others would. But I love that you’re calling this out. It’s asinine to think they can’t get this content on their own or just credit/partner with you. Hopefully this forces them to do some thinking in the future

Thanks so much Vincenzo. Totally agree.

Excellent, Tiggy, and handled with grace and professionalism. This dilutes Sky’s credibility and stature in my view.

I have seen a lot of F1 driver comments posted and reposted multiple times without attribution. So I agree with the Silver Surfer. I also think that creators and journalists need to remember that they are the medium and the message between the athletes and their fans. We read and watch not to see or hear you so much as to learn what you’ve discovered and choose to share. When the focus becomes about you, the creator, I think sometimes it’s misplaced. Remember why we the fans are paying attention: It’s not to see you at the event, it’s to see them.

What a strange comment about a video that has nothing to do with me and is all about Lando. I’m flattered you recognized my hand though.

Tiggy, I really appreciate what you bring to F1. You are one of the best out there. I love that you asked a great question of Lando and posted it for us fans. That video is an example of what I like to see and why I follow you. However, I was responding to something that I’ve noticed this past year whilst following F1. Sometimes posts are a bit too much about the creator/journalist’s F1 experience. It is a choice to be in the foreground of a piece or in the background. The best writers and creators strike the right balance.

She was also a nominee at the Autosport Awards and it would’ve been incredibly easy for Sky Sports to mention that.

So in this case she is part of the story. She was nominated by the industry for Content Creator of the year, and that deserves to be acknowledged.

Respectfully, and as a fan, I fear you may have jumped the gun a little here! As an attendee of the awards, I can say that this was taken from a mixed media area where the agreement is that everyone can capture everything. In all likelihood, this has been captured by a third party, who has then served it up to Sky who have no awareness that you are a smaller creator. I do note that Sky have now credited you, which is probably the most respectful thing to do, but unfortunately, I don't believe they are obligated. Something to be aware of, and always good to establish the facts as a journalist. Keep up the good work!

I’m not making a legal argument, I’m making a principled one. Creators have seen this happen to them far too often in this space, yet we are constantly read the riot act about our own editorial and journalistic standards. Using my platform to draw attention to disrespectful and unprofessional behavior by a massive network with plenty of their own original content isn’t jumping the gun, in my opinion. I appreciate your thoughtful comment but we can agree to disagree on this one.

Silver Surfer's avatar

Again, respectfully, I understand your initial annoyance as a relatively smaller creator, especially if you are unaware of the protocol and permissions granted at these events. However, your entire post and (quite significant) accusation are based on your assumption that someone at Sky sought out your content and screen-recorded it to 'steal' your content and not credit you. When, quite clearly, a media company has captured Lando responding to a question in a mixed-media zone and published his response, just as you'd be well within your rights to publish any of the responses he gave to the other outlets. The press and news reporting itself is built upon journalists writing up and publishing athletes' and sports personalities' responses to questions, regardless of who is asking the question, and particularly in a mixed-media zone. I don't believe there has been a line crossed here this time, rather an unfortunate misunderstanding of how the system works. Happy to agree to disagree on this occasion.

Respectfully, asking questions in a mixed zone and taking someone else’s video are two completely different things (and it's clearly her footage). Sky didn’t publish their own footage or write up Lando's response, they used Tiggy’s clip and branded it as their own. That’s why people are calling it out, and a major outlet should know better. It’s unprofessional and unfair, even if there are grey areas. The amount of support she’s getting from others in the space makes it pretty clear why.

Silver Surfer's avatar

You are wrong. They didn't take her footage, and there lies the rub. It is different/their own footage, so her accusation is false. And it appears that they did eventually give acknowledgement when Tiggy made them aware. I can only apologize if my comments seem to undermine but hopefully it will be useful information moving forward. Good day.

Also immediately trying to undermine her credibility and imply she's ignorant to the rules and 'way things work' is dismissive and patronizing
